On My Nightstand

So today Kara asked for blogger participation, and her request was that we all take a picture of something in our environment and post it on our own blog.  I am happy to participate, because as anyone who attempts to read me frequently knows, I have been struggling for content.

So Kara posted a picture of the contents of her bag.  I decided that would not be an appropriate picture for me, because I could not fit the contents of my bag in one frame.  Here’s a picture of my bag:

Trust me, one does not want to look in there.  It’s like the Bermuda Triangle of bags - things go in, sometimes never to be seen again.

Anyway, so I decided to take a picture of the book stack on my nightstand.  I am an avid reader, and I’ll read pretty much anything.  My stack isn’t that big right now.  It is about time to take another trip to Borders.

So let’s see what you’ve got, dear readers!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

And that is an understatement.  I’m so tired of the cold and the snow that seems to come everyday.  So let’s talk about things that make us feel warm and fuzzy, shall we?  Here are some things that do it for me:

  • the beautiful cashmere scarf that B gave me for Christmas, which I love for all of its pink and purpley glory
  • buying new books

The Year of Magical Thinking Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

  • Starbucks Hot Chocolate….wish I had some right now
  • http://thepioneerwomancooks.com has some really good ideas for Superbowl party foods, and is just a fantastic cooking blog in general
  • My trial that was supposed to start Monday got continued, so I don’t have to work this weekend.  Yay!
  • Getting my hair cut tonight – hello scalp massage, how I’ve missed you
  • The Sunday breakfasts that B and I have gotten into the habit of making together
  • The much anticipated (by me) return of Lost tonight, even though, frankly, it sometimes scares the hell out of me
  • The way B holds my hand under the table when we are out to dinner
  • The Body Shop Almond Body Butter for my dry, cracking skin

Readers?  What helps you make it through the long winter days?

A girl after my own heart….

Just finished a good chick-lit book.  It is called “Bitter is the New Black” by Jen Lancaster.  It is a memoir of sorts, although after the debacle that was “A Million Little Pieces” (much ado about nothing, in my opinion), she made sure to include a disclaimer at the beginning saying that not EVERY detail was absolutely true.

I was sucked in initially by the title alone.  What me, bitter?!

Anyway, “Bitter is the New Black” was a very quick read, and very easy to relate to.  And it was funny.  Jen Lancaster is a fellow blogger (www.jennsylvania.com), and “Bitter” is her first book.  Anyway, I thought it was worth passing on, so check it out!
